How Many Roofing Shingles Do I Need?
You will need to order enough packs of roof shingles to cover the main body of your roof and then extra to cover the ridge.
Our felt roof shingles calculator has been designed to work for a 2 sided apex roof using roof shingles that cover 3m2 per pack.
If your roof is different and contains valleys, rakes etc as shown on the disgram below please contact us for advice.
You will need to know:
1 – The total area of your roof in metres squared (m2)
Remember to add together both sides of your roof. The area of the roof will be larger than the m2 area of the building itself so you may need to do some measuring or consult technical drawings/information.
2 – The length of the ridge in metres (running metres).
The starter strip shingles that run along the eaves and any offcuts/wastage are accounted for by rounding up the number of packs required.
With the majority of our roof shingles the same roof shingles are used for the main area, starter strip and ridge. Please see our instructions pages for more information on how this works.
All calculations are given in good faith and are based on our experience and knowledge but without liability. It is your responsibility to make sure you are ordering the correct amount of felt shingles. We cannot be held responsible for any inconvenience caused and/or extra costs incurred.
